Tisvilde Hegn is a 2045 Ha big area with forest, bogs, lakes, tidal, meadows, dunes, beaches and heather areas. From the Danish Bronze Age from 1500 – 500 B.C. there are 66 burial mounds, scattered all over Tisvilde Hegn:

Tisvilde Hegn is unique in nature and biodiversity. Thats why its a part of Natura 2000 Network. Its a EU wide network of nature protection areas established under 1992  EU Habitat Directive. The aim of the network is to assure the long-term survival of Europe´s most valuable and threaten species and habitats. It also applies to the marine environment. Tisvilde Hegn is one of Denmark´s 252 NATURA 2000 habitat areas protected by 3 danish laws: Miljømålsloven, Skovloven and Naturbeskyttelsesloven and administrated of Naturstyrelsen under Miljøministeriet. All the 252 NATURA 2000 have an area of 8,3 % of danish land area and 17,7 % of the danish sea area.
