COBRA Congress 1949 in architect house “Frederiksholm-cottage” in Bregneroed, North Sealand, Denmark.
COBRA Movement was established 8. november 1948 in Paris as en international artists union of painters, writers and architects.
COBRA – stand for:
CO = Copenhagen, BR = Bruxelles and A = Amsterdam and has its artistic roots from spontaneous abstract expression.
COBRA includes political, social and ethnological observations from more than 50 artists in 10 countries.
The main artists and founders of COBRA were:
Asger Jorn from Denmark, Constant from Holland and Christian Dotremont from Belgium.
Most famous participants were: Pierre Alechinsky, Carl-Henning Pedersen, Karel Appel and Corneille.
Summer 1949 about 15 artists with wives and children were on a COBRA CONGRESS in an architect house “Frederiksholm-cottage” in Bregnerød owned by Copenhagen Academy of Fine Arts (Copenhagen School of Architecture).
As a experiment they painted “collective paintings” on walls and ceilings of the architect house “Frederiksholm-cottage”, Bregnerød, North Sealand, Denmark.

In 1969 the “Frederiksholm-cottage” in Bregnerød was removed and
today only 17 paintings on one of the ceilings in “Frederiksholm-cottage” are preserved.
